Reclaim your creative self

Reconnect with the creative passions you left behind and explore new ones.

You used to feel creative. Where did that go?

You weren’t always this tired, this practical, this focused on getting things done. Once upon a time, you stayed up too late writing stories or spent entire afternoons finger painting, collaging, singing, tinkering, or dreaming up wildly impractical things.

Now? You scroll. You sigh. You tell yourself you’ll get back to it "someday."

This guide is your nudge to stop waiting. We’re going to walk through a few key steps:

  1. Reflect on what got in the way of your creativity

  2. Take small, doable actions to reconnect

  3. Use practical tools to support you (some free, some paid)

  4. Choose a deeper path if you’re ready

Let's go.

Step 1: Get curious

Before we jump into action, let's slow down and notice what's happening under the surface. Creativity is deeply personal, and the roadblocks aren’t always obvious.

Reflect icon

Try this: Grab a journal or open a blank doc and reflect on these questions:

  • When did I last feel creative in a way that was just for me?

  • What voices or beliefs show up when I think about doing something creative?

  • What do I miss most about how I used to create?

You don’t need to answer them all. Just pick one and let your mind wander.

Step 2: Take action

Once you see what’s been blocking you, it’s time to try something. It doesn’t have to be big. In fact, choosing something small at this stage is best.

Try one of these:

  • Spend 15 minutes today doing something playful. Doodle, bake something weird, or write a haiku about your dog. No judgment.

  • Create a "just for fun" folder on your phone or laptop. Add one thing to it this week.

  • Choose a creative identity you'd like to try on again. ("I used to be a dancer" becomes "I'm someone who loves to dance.")
